Frequently Asked Questions

What is a closed system breast pump?
A closed system pump collects milk in a clean space, free from outside contamination. Backflow prevention keeps breastmilk out of the tubing and main pump. This prevents mold and bacteria from growing in the pump’s components. All Motif Medical breast pumps are closed system pumps for the safety of you and your little one.
What is a hospital grade pump? Do I need one?
A hospital grade breast pump is a rental pump available for mom to breastfeed her little one in the hospital or NICU. They designed to be shared by multiple moms and are not typically covered by health insurance. Motif Medical offers only the highest quality closed system breast pumps with the functionality, safety, and ease of use of a hospital grade system, but made for just one mom.
What kind of flanges and bottles can I use with Motif pumps?
Each of our pumps comes with a kit that provides plenty of compatible accessories. We also offer replacement accessories (including milk collection containers, bottle converters, tubing, chargers, storage bags, breast shields, diaphragms, etc.) for each of our breast pump.
How does the Luna produce More Milk In Less Time?
We partnered with a research firm to conduct a comparison test with 20 moms who used a leading brand with comparable features, the Medela Pump in Style Advanced or the Spectra S2. Moms used their current competitor pumps for 3+ session, and then the Luna double electric breast pump for 3+ sessions. 5 out of 6 moms got more milk in less time® with the Luna, and 9 out of 10 preferred the Luna over the Spectra S2 or Medela Pump in Style Advanced.
The Affordable Care Act now requires health insurance plans to cover breastfeeding supplies and support. However, plans may differ on the type of equipment and benefits offered. Look up your insurance to see if Motif pumps are covered for you.
