National Breastfeeding Month
August is National Breastfeeding Month, and this year's theme, "Together for Breastfeeding Success," emphasizes the importance of community support in helping mothers achieve their breastfeeding goals. Whether you are a partner, friend, or neighbor, there are countless ways you can support the moms in your life. Your encouragement makes a world of difference to every breastfeeding mother! We proudly celebrate every #MotifMoms motherhood and provide resources to breastfeeding moms to help support the breastfeeding community.
World Breastfeeding Week
Breastfeeding promotes healthier moms, babies, and societies. To truly benefit, we must support breastfeeding mothers and ensure they can practice this act of love without any obstacles. This Year’s World Breastfeeding Week Theme: “Closing the Gap”, showcases the need to improve breastfeeding support to reduce inequalities that exist in our society with a special focus on breastfeeding in times of emergencies and crises.
Motif is dedicated to helping close the gap in breastfeeding support through:
- Inform: Help educate mothers with lactation support: IBCLCs.
- Anchor: Closing social breastfeeding gaps for mothers who are at-risk in emergencies or under-represented communities to receive breastfeeding protection and support
- Engage: Voting to support breastfeeding programs and policies to inform and further improve breastfeeding rates.
- Galvanize: Implementing family-friendly workplace policies, such as paid maternity leave, breastfeeding breaks, and access to affordable childcare.
Families, communities, practitioners, and workplaces each have a role in affording women the time and space necessary to support their breastfeeding journey. Can you reflect on how you can show up to support a breastfeeding mother? Let's share love, resources, and understanding to ensure every mom thrives.
Black Breastfeeding Week
August 25th-31st Black Breastfeeding Week was established because of the racial disparity gaps in breastfeeding rates. This year’s theme, "Listen Up" helps shift the narrative and reclaim breastfeeding stories! Every Black woman's lactation journey matters!
